Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Salmon Commission.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

106 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources it he will sympathetically review the request of the Suir and Blackwater Estuary Fishermen for representation on the National Salmon Commission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9576/01]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 136 on 20 March 2001 in which I confirmed that I have no plans to alter the balance of statutory representation on the National Salmon Commission at present. I have recently appointed Mr. Joey Murrin as chairperson of the commission. Mr. Murrin was already a member of the commission on the nomination of the Marine Institute. This creates a vacancy for a member of the Commission to be filled on the nomination of the Marine Institute in addition to one other vacancy to be filled on the nomination of the Central Fisheries Board.
