Vol. 533 No. 6

Written Answers. - Energy Project Funding.

Denis Naughten

Question:

107 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason for the delay in allocating funding to the Energy Valley Project, Arigna, County Roscommon; when funding will be allocated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9616/01]

Provision of £600,000 for grant aid towards the cost of a mining museum project at Arigna has been included in my Department's Vote since last year. The project was approved in principle by the Minister for Finance subject to the promoters, Arigna Energy Valley Limited, submitting detailed business plans that showed the viability of the project. As discussed with the company last year, I decided to employ a consultant to assess the viability of the project. The consultant's report was submitted to my Department within the last fortnight. A copy of the report was forwarded for comment to Arigna Energy Valley Limited and when the company's views are received, the grant aid application can be further considered.
