Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

134 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the discussions which have taken place between his Department, the local authorities and the National Roads Authority arising from the flooding which took place in November 2000 in the various towns and villages throughout north Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10174/01]

The Commissioners of Public Works have sought details from Kildare County Council in relation to flooding in Kildare in November 2000 as well as any other reports, historical data etc. relating to flooding in general in the county. This request is being dealt with and on receipt of the relevant information, the Commissioners of Public Works will liaise with Kildare County Council with a view to determin ing how best to deal with the flooding problems identified.

Following a meeting of the interdepartmental committee on bad weather, which was reconvened following the November flooding, the Commissioners of Public Works are currently preparing a brochure which will set out assessment criteria and standards to be taken into account by local authorities and the National Roads Authority in planning future developments. This brochure will issue to each local authority, the NRA and any other relevant body by the end of this month.
