Question:189 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the provision which has been made in canteens in interpretative centres for persons with coeliac disease. [10107/01]
Written Answers. - Departmental Canteen Facilities.
Tea room and restaurant facilities are provided at 24 sites or visitor centres which are managed by Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department. The sites where such facilities are provided are set out in the table below. The tea rooms in Glenveagh Castle, County Donegal, are operated by Dúchas. Barryscourt Castle, Carrigtwohill, County Cork, is managed jointly by Dúchas and Barryscourt Trust and the tea-rooms are operated separately by the trust. Muckross House, Killarney, County Kerry, is managed jointly by Dúchas and the trustees of Muckross House and the restaurant is operated separately by the trustees. Facilities at the other 21 sites are operated by private individuals and companies under license from my Department. The licensees are required to observe all relevant statutory and other regulations, including those of area health authorities, relating to the facilities being provided. It is a matter for the licensees to familiarise themselves with any specific requirements in relation to coeliac disease and to comply with them. Otherwise, it is at the discretion of the licensees whether to make such provision. As regards the tea rooms in Glenveagh Castle, no specific provision has been made but information regarding products used is available, on request, to persons suffering from coeliac disease.
