Question:

201 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of house break-ins in Cabra east, Dublin 7 in 2000, and to date in 2001. [10189/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 200 and 201 together.

I am informed by the Garda that, of the 55 house break-ins in Cabra west referred to in Parliamentary Question No. 513 of 20 March 2001, 16 have been detected and prosecutions are pending in each of these cases. I am further informed by the Garda that the number of house break-ins in the Cabra east area in the period 1 January 2000, to 31 March 2001 was 23. I am also informed that in March of this year two additional gardaí were allocated to Cabra station and that, as a result, foot patrols in the area have been increased. I am assured by the Garda that community gardaí play an active role in the prevention of such crimes in the area.
