Brendan McGahon

Question:

62 Mr. McGahon asked the Minister for Health and Children the role his Department has taken to resolve disagreements between the three Dublin based children's hospitals (details supplied). [9898/01]

Gay Mitchell

Question:

68 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement as to the reason a person (details supplied) at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, continues to hold a temporary appointment. [9892/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 62 and 68 together.

I am most concerned and disappointed at the ongoing disagreement between the three children's hospitals in Dublin concerning the location of certain specialties and the structure of consultant posts. The failure of the three hospitals to agree on the structuring of a post, as recommended by Comhairle na nOspidéal, has prevented the permanent filling of the post referred to by Deputy Mitchell. Both the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the Council for Children's Hospitals Care have attempted to resolve the disagreement, without success, and I am considering what can be done to break the impasse. A meeting has been scheduled to take place on Monday next with myself and my officials to discuss this matter further.
Question No. 63 answered with Question No. 51.
