Vol. 534 No. 4

Written Answers - Medical Cards.

Noel Ahern

Question:

146 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health and Children the position with regard to a medical card holder getting new lenses in their existing spectacle frames; if there should be a charge of £35 to the clients or if it is totally free under the medical card scheme; and if he will clarify the position. [11083/01]

The scheme to which the Deputy refers provides for sight testing and the provision of approved spectacles, free of charge, to adult medical card holders and to their adult dependants. There is also provision in the scheme for the fitting of new lenses to a client's own approved frames without charge.
