Question:

185 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the total amount of money paid by her Department, including payment in respect of Ministers of State, in respect of public relations consultancy work undertaken by private sector public relations consultancy firms each year for the years 1998, 1999 and 2000. [10894/01]

Neither my Department nor I have directly engaged in expenditure on public relations consultancies in these years. An Coimisiún faoin nGaeilge sa Ghaeltacht, established by the Government in April 2000 to bring forward recommendations to strengthen Irish as the ordinary language of the Gaeltacht population, has engaged Meas Media at a fee of £18,000 to assist in its public consultations.

A breakdown of the £65,433 expended on PR consultancy work by the national cultural institutions which are under the direct control of my Department during these years is set out below:
