Jack Wall

Question:

188 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans she has to ensure proper maintenance and safe conditions for the round tower and historical houses in St. James Church, Castledermot, County Kildare; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10937/01]

Question:

189 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans she has to ensure the maintenance and safe condition of the abbey ruins in Castledermot, County Kildare. [10938/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 188 and 189 together.

The abbey and round tower at Castledermot are inspected at least once a year and any necessary maintenance and repair work is then carried out by my Department's direct labour. A programme of conservation work, which included repairs to the stone vault and general masonry re-pointing and repair was carried out some years ago but no additional works are required at present. St James Church is not in State care and the responsibility for its maintenance lies with the relevant Church authority.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

190 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if any progress has been achieved in the matter of the floodlighting of Tagadoe Round Tower, Maynooth, County Kildare; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11041/01]

The position remains as outlined in my reply to Questions Nos. 135 and 140 of 21 February 2001.

Question:

191 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans she has for the development of Donadea Castle and forest park as a national park and heritage centre in the foreseeable future; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11042/01]

Question:

192 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if she has any long or short-term plans for the restoration of Donadea Castle and its ancillary buildings at Donadea, County Kildare; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11043/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 191 and 192 together.

The position remains as outlined in my reply to Questions Nos. 138 and 139 on 21 February 2001 and in other previous replies. Donadea would not meet the international criteria for designation of national parks.
