Vol. 534 No. 4

Written Answers - Film Industry Development.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

84 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the amount of money generated by film making in each of the past ten years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10712/01]

My Department is not in a position to provide a comprehensive response regarding total moneys generated by film making for the period in question. The Deputy may, however, wish to be aware that the Audiovisual Federation of IBEC publishes an annual report on the economic impact of film production in Ireland.

My Department is responsible for the certification of film projects availing of tax relief on investment under section 481 of the Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997, formerly section 35 of the Finance Act 1987, as amended.

The Deputy will appreciate that information relating to the years 1991 to 1993 is not available to my Department as certification of section 35-assisted projects did not commence until July 1994.

The information regarding the application of the section 481 scheme from 1994 to 2001 is shown in tabular form and will be circulated in the Official Report.
