Vol. 534 No. 4

Written Answers - Alternative Energy Projects.

David Stanton

Question:

107 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the progress made by the Renewable Energy Strategy Group; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11038/01]

I established the Renewable Energy Strategy Group in November, 1999 to examine the obstacles to the deployment of an additional 500 MWe of renewable energy based electricity generating plant by 2005. The group's report concentrating on wind energy technology was presented to me in July, 2000. The report contains a number of recommendations and a suggested strategy into the future. My Department is currently concluding an assessment of the report's recommendations and responses from interested parties with a view to concluding a revised policy. I expect to announce an initial programme of measures to support the building of renewable energy based electricity plant in the coming weeks.
