Vol. 534 No. 5

Written Answers - Hospital Waiting Lists.

John McGuinness

Question:

135 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 106 of 21 March 2001, he will confirm when a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny will be given an appointment at Waterford Regional Hospital as the reply given by the South Eastern Health Board states only that the patient's name is on a waiting list. [11254/01]

The Deputy will appreciate that the scheduling of hospital admissions is a matter for the relevant hospital concerned based on clinical priority. I have, therefore, asked the chief executive officer at the South Eastern Health Board, which has responsibility for the provision of hospital services in the case to the which the Deputy is referring, to look into the matter again and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.

John McGuinness

Question:

136 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reasons three appointments for a person (details supplied) in County Carlow to attend for a procedure at the gynaecology department, St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny were cancelled on the day of admittance with minimum notice; if the appointments system at the hospital can be reviewed to ensure that this type of incident does not recur; if the cancellations had anything to do with the shortage of beds in the hospital; the plans the South Eastern Health Board has to deal with the problem; and if a specific date can be arranged for another appointment in this case which will not result in another cancellation. [11255/01]

The provision of services for people living in the Carlow area is, in the first instance, the statutory responsibility of the South Eastern Health Board. I have, therefore, asked the chief executive officer at the board to look into the matter raised by the Deputy and reply directly to him in this regard.
