Vol. 534 No. 5

Written Answers - Garda National Immigration Bureau.

Ivor Callely

Question:

171 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the offices and administrative supports in place for the continued effective functioning of the Garda National Immigration Bureau; the progress with regard to a dedicated office block in a suitable location; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11115/01]

My Department is currently in consultation with the Garda authorities and the Office of Public Works regarding the provision of suitable permanent office accommodation for the Garda National Immigration Bureau. It is hoped to have this accommodation in place by the end of this year. In the meantime, the Garda authorities have provided temporary accommodation for the bureau within the Garda complex at Harcourt Square.

I can assure the Deputy that any staffing resources which were identified to me by the Garda Commissioner for the effective functioning of the bureau have been provided and I am in regular contact with the Commissioner in respect of future needs having regard to trends in immigration matters generally.
