Vol. 534 No. 5

Written Answers - Asgard Restoration.

Pat Carey

Question:

90 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Defence if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Asgard is lying unsecured and unprotected in the car park at the Point Depot; if he can arrange for officials from his Department to clarify the timeframe for its restoration; the measures the restoration committee will have to put in place to protect the vessel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11180/01]

I refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 260 on 10 April 2001 given by the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands. My Department has been informed by the Asgard Restoration Project, ARP, that it is in the process of making suitable alternative arrangements for the accommodation of the Asgard. The ARP has also indicated that in the interim the hull of the vessel is protected from the weather and that arrangements to ensure the security of the vessel have been put in place.
