Vol. 535 No. 2

Written Answers - International Terrorist Groups.

Dan Neville

Question:

209 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, with regard to international terror groups who have been reported as using Ireland as a safe haven having been forced to scale down their activities elsewhere, he will state his policy and plans in this regard. [12581/01]

I am advised by the Garda authorities that they have no evidence that international terrorist groups are using the State as a "safe haven", having been forced to scale down their activities elsewhere, although they are conscious of a considerable increase in the number of persons in this jurisdiction from areas of conflict throughout the world. Any adverse activities by any group of persons which comes to attention are closely monitored by the Garda Síochána.
