Vol. 535 No. 2

Written Answers - School Accommodation.

Ivor Callely

Question:

218 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education and Science the issues raised with him in November 2000 by St. Paul's special school, Beaumont, Dublin 9; the progress made on each issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12428/01]

The school raised a range of issues relating to its accommodation needs, its staffing requirements, the introduction of a pre-school service and its need for increased funding to address its transport requirements and to improve a range of its existing services.

My Department is currently examining the issues raised by the school. As part of this process, members of my Department's inspectorate have visited the school and discussed the issues in question in some detail. My Department will be in contact with the school authorities as soon as this examination has been completed.

In the meantime, I am pleased to inform the Deputy that two additional special needs assistant posts have recently been allocated to the school and the question of further such allocations is currently being considered.
