Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Irish Cultural Centre.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

157 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will provide funding to the committee of the Irish Cultural Centre in Boston, USA, to assist them with the completion of the centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13763/01]

The Department of Foreign Affairs has not received an application for funding from the Irish Cultural Centre in Boston. The Consulate General of Ireland in Boston is in regular contact with the Irish Cultural Centre and can facilitate any application for funds made by the centre.

The cultural allocation of the Department of Foreign Affairs is used to finance Irish cultural events abroad. Funds are not given for the purchase of buildings. However, the Department could fund events organised by the centre.

I am happy to entertain an application for funding of an event from the Irish Cultural Centre should it make one.
