Written Answers - Asylum Applications.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

218 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will consider the application of a person (details supplied) orig inally from the Czech Republic, for permission to remain here on humanitarian grounds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14205/01]

The person referred to arrived in the State on 5 October 2000 with her two children and sought asylum. Following an interview, her case was deemed manifestly unfounded on 9 November 2000. Her subsequent appeal was refused by the appeals authority on 5 March 2001. In accordance with section 3 of the Immigration Act, 1999, the person in question was informed on 27 April 2001 that it was proposed to make a deportation order in respect of her and her children. She was given the alternatives of either making representations within 15 working days setting out reasons she and her children should be allowed to remain temporarily in the State, leaving the State before the order was made or consenting to the making of a deportation order. Her reply is still awaited and I expect the file to be submitted to me for consideration shortly.
