John Bruton

Question:

255 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science when it is likely that the new second level school in Ratoath, County Meath, will open; if it is possible that for first year students, the school will open in prefabricated classrooms on the site before the school is fully completed; and if so, when this might happen. [14281/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 243 and 255 together.

I recently announced the provision of a new second level school on a green field site in Ratoath, County Meath. The school will be a community college under the aegis of County Meath VEC. A number of steps now need to be taken to progress the development of the facility, including the determination of school size and catchment area and the identification and acquisition of a site. In this regard, the planning and building unit of my Department will be in contact with County Meath VEC to authorise the committee to commence the search for a site. A meeting with the committee's chief executive officer has also been arranged.

In the circumstances, it is not possible at this point to be more specific on the details of the project until progress has been made on the foregoing matters.
