Vol. 536 No. 3

Written Answers - Border Checkpoints.

Question:

115 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the number of suitably qualified people at each Border inspection post to inspect food products; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14078/01]

Each of the Border inspection posts is under the supervision of a Department veterinary inspector who is assisted by ship inspectors in carrying out the necessary inspections of consignments of products of animal origin and live animals. I believe that these inspectors are suitably qualified for such duties.
