Question:

334 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the child care groups which have received grants under the equal opportunities scheme for the past three years in County Roscommon; the number of children each group looks after or plans to look after; if each grant was a capital grant or for staffing; the amount of grant involved; and the grants paid to date in 2001. [15040/01]

Under my Department's equal opportunities child care programme for 1998-99, I approved funding totalling IR£98,000 to two child care groups in County Roscommon. Details of the grants awarded are given in table 1 below.

The Deputy will be aware that the current equal opportunities child care programme was launched in April 2000 and is for the seven year period 2000 to 2006.
The total amount committed by my Department so far under the equal opportunities child care programme in the National Development Plan, 2000-2006, to ten child care providers or child care groups in Roscommon is IR£805,111. Over 120 new child care places will be created and the retention of almost 200 existing places in County Roscommon will be assured as a result of this funding. This funding will also lead to improvements in quality and, in some cases, allow child care providers extend their opening hours. Details of these child care providers or child care groups are outlined in tables 2 and 3 below.
