Vol. 536 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Creed

Question:

232 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science the price guidelines that are available to architects who are designing school building projects for his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15212/01]

The policy of my Department is to control the cost of schools building projects through cost and floor area limits in order to achieve value for money. The current basic building cost for primary schools is £800 per square metre and for post-primary schools £850 per square metre. The basic building cost includes the building and substructures, the proportion of contingencies, preliminaries, insurance and VAT.
