Vol. 536 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

237 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science when sanction will be given for a replacement prefab for a school (details supplied) in County Cork. [15255/01]

My Department has received an application from the management authorities of the school referred to by the Deputy for grant aid towards a permanent classroom to replace an existing prefabricated classroom and a GP room. In view of the large number of school building projects being dealt with by my Department's building unit at present, it is not possible at this stage to provide a timescale as to when this project may proceed to architectural planning.

Michael Bell

Question:

238 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education and Science the details of the contract for the building of the new vocational education committee college for the northside of Drogheda, County Louth; the last and contract date for commencing and completion; the use the existing school building will be put to when the new college is completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15335/01]

On 8 May 2001 my Department sanctioned the construction of a new school, St. Laurence's, for the northside of Drogheda, County Louth. It is envisaged that construction on this project will begin within the next three to four weeks. The completion date will be 65 weeks from the start of construction. The future use of the existing school premises is a matter for the vocational education committee, as the owner of the premises. I understand the VEC is consider ing using the premises to accommodate its Youthreach, VTOS and adult education programmes.
