Vol. 536 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

80 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will make additional Garda resources available to Ballyfermot Garda Station, Dublin 10; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11498/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda resources, that the personnel strength – all ranks – at Ballyfermot Garda station, as at 1 January 2000, was 66. The current personnel strength, as at 18 May 2001, is 76. This represents an increase of 10 personnel, or 15%, during that period.

In respect of vehicles allocated to Ballyfermot Garda Station, I am further informed that there are 12 vehicles attached to the station. They are allocated as follows:

Drugs

5 vehicles

Patrol

3 Vehicles

Detective

2 Vehicles

Community Policing

1 Vehicle

Public Order

1 Vehicle

The allocation of vehicles to this station is comparable to stations of similar size and population throughout the country.
I am assured by the Garda authorities that the situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available the needs of Ballyfermot will be considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.
