Question:

93 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of asylum seekers who have been granted refugee status in each of the past three years; and the countries from which the bulk of these people come. [15122/01]

The information sought by the Deputy and made available to me by the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner and the Office of the Refugee Appeals Tribunal is set out in the following tabular statement:

Over the period 1998 to 2000, the highest number of grants of refugee status were in respect of persons who came from Somalia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Libya.
