Vol. 536 No. 6

Written Answers. - Herd Restriction Orders.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

149 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason a herd restriction order was placed on a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15189/01]

The herd concerned is on a holding that adjoins a holding with a category A reactor herd. This essential epidemiological risk factor was taken into consideration by the veterinary inspector when issuing the restriction notice in accordance with Council Directive 98/46/EC. The two inconclusive reactors are due to be retested in June and in the meantime, if the herdowner so wishes, they may be slaughtered under permit.
