Vol. 537 No. 1

Written Answers. - Consultant Appointments.

Brendan Smith

Question:

114 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Health and Children if additional accident and emergency consultants will be appointed to the North Eastern Health Board area; if so, the hospitals to which these appointments will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14775/01]

I was pleased to provide funding under the winter initiative for the recruitment of two accident and emergency consultants to serve the North Eastern Health Board region. Following consideration by Comhairle na nOspidéal the board has advised that these appointments are to be based at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and provide outreach services for the other general hospitals in the health board area. The recruitment of these additional personnel, initially on a temporary basis, is being progressed by the board.
