Vol. 537 No. 1

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

John McGuinness

Question:

116 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a medical card was not renewed for a person (details supplied) in County Carlow; and if the circumstances of the case can be examined and a card issued immediately. [15346/01]

Under the Health Act, 1970, the determination of eligibility for health services is the responsibility of the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board, and neither I nor my Department have a function in the matter.

As the determination of eligibility of the person concerned rests with the chief executive o officer of the South Eastern Health Board, I have asked him to have the matter investigated and to reply directly to you.
