Vol. 537 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dental Service.

Michael Ring

Question:

123 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a person (details supplied) in County Galway will be called for dental treatment. [15432/01]

As the provision of dental services to eligible persons in County Galway is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board, I have asked the chief executive officer of that board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.

Michael Ring

Question:

124 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when a dentist will be appointed to the Clifden area in County Galway; the length of time Clifden has been without a dentist; and the current situation regarding the waiting list for children who need dental work in that area. [15433/01]

I am informed by the chief executive officer of the Western Health Board – WHB – that the board proposes to assign a health board dental surgeon to Clifden this coming June. The position of full-time health board dentist in Clifden became vacant in February 2000 and the chief executive officer has informed me that emergency services for children in the area were maintained since then. The chief executive officer of the WHB has also informed me that waiting lists for routine dental treatment of children in the area concerned are not maintained.
