John Bruton

Question:

142 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to any research being done on the possible use of antibiotics (details supplied) in human medicine. [15484/01]

The Irish Medicines Board is the competent authority for the authorisation, supervision and control of medicinal products and also for the grant of permissions to conduct clinical trials in this country under the Control of Clinical Trials Acts, 1987 and 1990. I have been advised by the board that there are no clinical trials approved by it cur rently investigating the use of any of the substances referred to by the Deputy in human medicine.
