Vol. 537 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Seán Ryan

Question:

158 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if there are provisions within the shared ownership-affordable housing scheme to facilitate a person to purchase a dwelling by means of a shared ownership loan, notwithstanding that she and her late husband previously purchased a house under the scheme, sold it and she and her children are now in private rented accommodation. [15459/01]

The administration of the shared ownership scheme, including determination of eligibility, is a matter for individual local authorities who must decide on each application having regard, inter alia, to an applicant's eligibility under the terms of the scheme and his ability to meet the necessary mortgage and rent repayments. The previous purchase of a shared ownership house would not normally debar an applicant, who otherwise meets the eligibility criteria, from availing of the scheme.
