Vol. 537 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payments.

Austin Currie

Question:

166 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason for the delay in paying unemployment benefit to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 22. [15401/01]

The person concerned made a claim for unemployment benefit on 14 April 2001. In accordance with normal practice she was requested to submit details of her efforts to find work and to supply some documentary evidence. No evidence was submitted and the claim was closed. She made a repeat claim on 11 May 2001 and the requirements were again explained to her. Documentary evidence of efforts to find employment have not been supplied. On receipt of all the necessary information a decision will be made on the claim and the person concerned will be notified of the outcome. Under social welfare legislation decisions in relation to claims must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
