Question:

175 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when the national cultural institutions council will be established; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15415/01]

The Council of National Cultural Institutions comprises the directors and chief executives of ten institutions, the National Museum of Science and Art, the National Library of Ireland, the National Gallery of Ireland, the Arts Council, the Heritage Council, the Irish Museum of Modern Art Company Limited, the National Concert Hall Company Limited, the Chester Beatty Library, the National Theatre Society Limited and the National Archives.

The council was set up on 21 October 1998 in line with An Action Programme for the Millennium. The purpose of the council is to pool together the collective resources of talent, experience and vision in furtherance of the national cultural interest.
