Vol. 537 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

201 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the assistance he can give to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15375/01]

While the State acknowledges the right of parents to educate their children at home or in a private school, my Department is not in a position to provide funding in respect of such private tuition.

In this case, the school inspector has advised that a place is available for the pupil concerned in Killea national school, County Waterford, his local school. The parent has expressed a wish to have her son enrolled in St. Declan's national school, Waterford city, and I am also advised that a place is available for him in this school.

I can assure the Deputy that every effort will be made to ensure this child's educational needs will be met in his new school.
