Vol. 537 No. 3

Written Answers. - Crime Prevention.

Mildred Fox

Question:

216 Miss Fox asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will consider providing a crime prevention vehicle for the Avoca area of County Wicklow; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a garda had to walk to the scene of a fire recently in the Vale View Hotel, Avoca, a distance of almost two miles; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16167/01]

The Garda is responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, and Wicklow Garda district, of which Avoca is part, has seven vehicles:

Roundwood

1 Car

Newtownmountkennedy

1 Car

Wicklow

4 Cars

Rathdrum

1 Car

The Garda authorities have also informed me that the allocation of vehicles to the Wicklow District is comparable to other districts of similar size and population.
