Vol. 537 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Austin Deasy

Question:

97 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will ensure that the proposals from Waterford County Council for a sewerage treatment plant for Ardmore, County Waterford will get priority in view of the recent report of the Environmental Protection Agency on the quality of bathing water at this resort. [15545/01]

Ardmore sewerage scheme was approved for funding in the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002 under the rural towns and villages initiative. Waterford County Council has since proposed that the scheme be grouped with sewerage schemes for six other villages in County Waterford for procurement as a combined design/build/operate contract. I understand that the council expects to complete the preliminary report for the grouped project in July. On submission to my Department, the preliminary report will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
