The exact information requested by the Deputy is not available. The tourism industry encompasses many sectors and its impact is difficult to define precisely. Bord Fáilte has estimated that tourism contributed about 138,000 jobs across all sectors in 1999.
CSO statistics from the Quarterly National Household Survey showing the estimated numbers of persons employed, full-time and part-time, in hotels and restaurants in the past three years are set out in the following table.
