Vol. 537 No. 3

Written Answers. - Farmed Deer.

John Perry

Question:

127 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he will intervene with all parties involved in a case (details supplied) to ensure the issue of boundary fencing is resolved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16164/01]

Primary responsibility for containing farmed deer within holdings rests with herdowners while issues relating to wild deer are primarily the responsibility of Dúchas. The Sligo District Veterinary Office is aware of the problems being caused by deer in the Collooney area and officials there are seeking to set up a co-ordinated strategy involving the relevant agencies and others to address the issue.
