Vol. 537 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Noel Ahern

Question:

181 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education and Science if the assembly hall, Larkhill, Dublin 9, is owned by, vested in or used by the national schools in Larkhill; if he will give details of the arrangement between his Department and the church diocesan authorities regarding ownership, control, management, use and refurbishment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16477/01]

My Department's records indicate that the three primary schools in Larkhill, Dublin 9, share the facilities in question. The entire site on which the three schools are located is vested for a period of 99 years from 1945. The lease simply guarantees that the school property, which is built mainly with grant aid from my Department, is retained for educational use.

The authorities of these schools have been authorised to appoint a consultant architect to draw up proposals for the refurbishment of the hall.
