Vol. 537 No. 4

Written Answers. - Swimming Pool Projects.

David Stanton

Question:

24 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the further progress which has been made in relation to the proposed swimming pool projects in Cobh and Youghal, County Cork, respectively; when he expects these projects to commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16264/01]

There are four stages in a swimming pool project – preliminary report stage, contract document stage, tender stage and construction stage. The Department's technical advisers evaluate each stage and local authorities cannot proceed to the next stage of a project unless prior approval issues from this Department.

The current position in relation to the replacement pool proposal in Cobh is that approval has been given to Cobh UDC to seek tenders for the work involved.

In relation to the pool proposal for Youghal, additional documentation has been received from the council in connection with the preliminary report, which will now be considered by our technical advisors. Subject to the satisfactory completion of this stage of the process, consideration will then be given to approval of the preliminary report thus allowing the council to proceed to the next stage, that is the preparation of detailed contract documents.
