Vol. 537 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bovine Disease Controls.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

78 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if, arising from his reply to previous parliamentary questions and documents currently being studied in his Department, he has satisfied himself that due process has been observed in all aspects of the case with particular reference to the herd owners anxiety to co-operate in disease eradication; the need for his Department to bring about a rapid response in respect of BSE; his intentions regarding the early payment of the outstanding moneys; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16487/01]

The background to this case was outlined in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 157 of 22 May 2001. The Department's investigation of this case has now concluded and a decision has been made to pay the agreed market value of the animals slaugh tered as a result of BSE. I am satisfied that procedures have been in accordance with due process. The payment is currently being processed and should issue shortly.
