Vol. 537 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rehabilitation Hospitals.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

105 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Health and Children the position regarding the provision of a rehabilitation hospital for Munster; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16399/01]

The Deputy will appreciate that the provision of services is a matter for the Southern Health Board in the first instance.

I am aware, however, that St. Mary's Hospital is the preferred site for an acute rehabilitation unit to serve the Cork and larger Munster region. I understand that a project team is in place for the development of St. Mary's Hospital whose brief includes the acute rehabilitation unit.

I have asked the chief executive officer at the board to write directly to the Deputy outlining the present position regarding this matter.
