203 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Defence the number of general operatives employed at Custume Barracks, Athlone; the number which were employed in each of the past five years; the plans he has to recruit additional general operatives; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The following table gives the number of general operatives employed at Custume Barracks, Athlone in the years 1996 to 2001.

At present there are no proposals to take on additional general operatives at Custume Barracks. The existing number of staff is considered adequate to meet the normal routine tasks likely to arise.
