Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John Perry

Question:

205 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a person (details supplied) will receive a beef premium for 2000; the reason for the delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16507/01]

Full payment under the special beef premium scheme in respect of five animals was made to the person named on 11 June 2001. The delay arose due to queries regarding a milk quota declaration on his 2000 area aid application which have recently been resolved.

Question:

206 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if he has received an appeal by a person (details supplied); if he will rescind the decision made on this person's suckler cow payment and grant him a waiver on the 30 day retention period; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16508/01]

All applications received by my Department under the 2000 suckler cow premium scheme have now been cross-checked with the cattle movement monitoring system.

With regard to the application submitted by the person named, it was found that one of the cows he had applied on was slaughtered within the six months retention period of the scheme and he did not notify my Department of its slaughter, nor of a replacement animal, as he is required to do under the terms and conditions of the scheme. He was advised by letter of 20 April 2001 that this animal was now rejected and that grants already paid to him under the scheme were subject to a reduction penalty.

Following a number of contacts between the person named and my Department's district livestock office, my Department again wrote to the person named on 18 May 2001 advising him that he had been overpaid by £294.72 under the 2000 suckler cow premium scheme and by £9.07 under the 2000 suckler cow premium scheme euro compensation. He was given the opportunity to have this decision reviewed by writing to my Department setting out any information which may be of benefit to his case. My Department received a reply from the person named on 29 May 2001 and he will be notified of the outcome of this review as soon as possible.
