Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Slaughtered Animals Statistics.

Question:

229 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the number of cattle disposals for the year 2000 on the basis of age, sex, breed and month of slaughter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16843/01]

I presume the Deputy is referring to slaughtered cattle only. The information available in relation to slaughtered cattle on the cattle tracing system in respect of 2000 is set out in the following tables.

In so far as the age of the animals is concerned, the database does not have precise information in relation to older animals as the recording of the date of birth of bovine animals only commenced in 1996. In addition, the CMMS database does not have comprehensive information in relation to the breed of animals slaughtered.
