Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - RAPID Programme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

512 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the extra resources which will be available to each of the RAPID Programme areas under each of the following sub-headings, health, education, housing, child care, sports facilities, youth development, drug misuse and policing; the amount in each case which is Exchequer funded; and the amount which is EU funded. [16872/01]

Under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness, the Government is committed to targeting investment under the National Development Plan, 2000-2006, on a priority basis to the 25 most disadvantaged areas in the country. Accordingly, the RAPID Programme, which has identified the 25 urban centres with the greatest concentration of disadvantage, has been launched.

The actual amount which will be available to or invested in any RAPID area will depend on the needs of the particular area, to be identified in an area implementation plan, which will shortly be drawn up, as well as the capacity of the statutory agencies to address those needs through the finances provided under the NDP. In the circumstances it is not possible at this stage to project expenditure under any particular heading nor is it possible to give a breakdown between Exchequer and EU funding.
