Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Tony Killeen

Question:

551 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will approve the appointment of a chaplain on an ex-quota basis at Scariff Community College, County Clare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16725/01]

My Department's established position in the matter has been to approve the allocation, on an ex-quota basis, of a post of chaplain to deed of trust-type community schools and colleges which arise from amalgamations and greenfield developments. The deeds of trust for such schools specifically provide for the appointment of a chaplain on an ex-quota basis. There is no pro vision at present for the allocation of a post of chaplain in the case of schools like Scariff, where it is understood there is no deed of trust involved.
