Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

599 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the circumstances under which there is an obligation on a primary school or his Department to run a competition under the European Union public procurement directives for the appointment of an architect; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17285/01]

The appointment of consultants in respect of school building projects is subject to the EU Procurement Directives if the estimated professional fees are likely to be in excess of the relevant threshold limits. The limits, which are exclusive of VAT, vary depending who is the client for the school building project.

In the case of the school authorities being the client, the limit is IR£168,795 (equivalent 214,316.00) and in the case of my Department being the client the limit is IR£109,717 (equivalent 139,312.00).
