Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - Institutes of Technology.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

107 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science the action he intends to take in relation to recent reports concerning management problems at the Dublin Institute of Technology. [17122/01]

The Dublin Institute of Technology is a statutory body established under the Dublin Institute of Technology Acts, 1992 and 1994. Under those Acts, the governance and day-to-day management of the institute are matters for which the governing body and the management staff of the institute are responsible.

I am anxious to see that problems arising in bodies coming under the aegis of my Department are addressed. It would, however, be inappropriate for me to seek to become involved in matters that are properly the function of the management and governing body of the institute.
