Vol. 538 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

John Perry

Question:

192 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will sanction the sewerage scheme for Mullaghmore, County Sligo, as a matter of urgency in view of the fact that Mullaghmore has lost its blue flag status; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17548/01]

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

194 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if Sligo County Council will be allocated financial assistance in this financial year for the provision of a sewage facility at Mullaghmore, County Sligo. [17372/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 192 and 194 together.

The Mullaghmore sewerage scheme was sixth on the list of waste water schemes submitted by Sligo County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, announced last July. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it was not possible to include the Mullaghmore scheme in the programme. The three year programme will be rolled forward one year on an annual basis with the addition of new schemes. The Mullaghmore scheme will continue to be considered in that context.

Jack Wall

Question:

193 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received an application for funding for a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17371/01]

No proposal on sewerage works at the Maryville housing estate has been submitted to my Department by Kildare County Council nor was such a proposal included in the list of schemes submitted by the council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments.

Question No. 194 answered with Question No. 192.
